Candlemakers and candle lovers alike can agree that nothing is more frustrating than candles that don't burn correctly, leaving us feeling like we've wasted our time and money. That's why I'm excited to share with you my top 5 candle tips and convenient candle tools that will help you savor your candles all the way to their last light.
1. Paraffin wax, a by-product of crude oil refinement, contains toxins and carcinogens that can pollute indoor air and is notorious for producing a burnt tire smell. To enjoy a healthier and more pleasant candle-burning experience, consider switching to clean-burning candles made from natural wax, such as coconut or soy wax. These alternatives not only benefit your health and the environment but also come in a wide variety of delightful scents to enhance your space.
2. Candle wicks containing lead cores are highly toxic and have been illegal to manufacture in the United States for several years. Despite this, candles made with lead core wicks can still be found on the market, and are often poorly regulated, putting consumers at risk. To ensure your safety and well-being, it's best to choose candle wicks made from natural materials like wood or cotton, or wicks that are free of a core altogether.
3.Burn your Candle Properly
- Burn your candle for two to three hours on first use
- Start by trimming the wick to ¼ inch
- Place the candle in a safe place to burn
- Next, light your candle with a long match or bendable candle lighter (This allows you to avoid tilting the candle to the side when lighting)
- Allow the candle to burn until the entire top layer of the candle is liquid, reaching from edge to edge across the candle typically 1 hour per 1 inch of the candle diameter.
4.When a candle burns down to less than half an inch, it's important to extinguish it and avoid using it again. Continuing to use a candle after the wax has burned away can result in the heat from the direct flame damaging the metal wick tab or the bottom of the container. This can cause the container to crack, potentially damaging nearby objects and surfaces.
5. Reuse a Candle Jar
